Jen-Coat, Inc. Announces Triple Chain of Custody Certification

Westfield, MA – August 24, 2010
– Jen-Coat, Inc., a leading flexible packaging manufacturer in the food, healthcare and industrial segments, announced today that they have been certified to the chain of custody standards established by the following organizations - FOREST STEWARDSHIP COUNCIL™ (FSC®), SUSTAINABLE FORESTRY INITIATIVE® (SFI®) and the PROGRAMME FOR THE ENDORSEMENT OF FOREST CERTIFICATION SCHEMES (PEFC™).
This important step is in keeping with Jen-Coat’s commitment to providing sustainable solutions to their customers. As outlined in their sustainability policy, Jen-Coat is committed to the goals of sustainable development, recycling of paper fiber, and promoting responsible resource management and use. To assist in achieving these goals, Jen-Coat got certified under the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) and the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) chain of custody standards. Jen-Coat employs environmental, social and economically sustainable practices to meet present needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs. This is accomplished by practicing and promoting a resource and conservation stewardship ethic. Jen-Coat is also committed to exploring emerging technologies including compostable, and biodegradable packaging materials.
“There is a trend in the market place where the brand owners are becoming more environmentally conscious in making purchasing decisions. Consumers want to be able to look at an item on the shelf and be able to recognize a label. They want to know that they are buying a product that is made with paper made from trees that came from sustainable sources. These certifications will allow us to pass these assurances on to our customers and they to their customers.” said Mr. Dave Hopkins, V.P. of Sales at Jen-Coat.

FOREST STEWARDSHIP COUNCIL™ (FSC®)
“The FSC is an independent, non-governmental, not-for-profit organization established to promote the responsible management of the world’s forests.
Established in 1993 in response to concerns over global deforestation, FSC is widely regarded as one of the most important initiatives of the last decade to promote responsible forest management worldwide.
FSC provides internationally recognized standard-setting, trademark assurance and accreditation services to companies, organizations, and communities interested in responsible forestry.
The FSC label provides a credible link between responsible production and consumption of forest products, enabling consumers and businesses to make purchasing decisions that benefit people and the environment, as well as providing ongoing business value.
FSC is nationally represented in more than 50 countries around the world.”

SUSTAINABLE FORESTRY INITIATIVE® (SFI®)
“The SFI program was launched in 1994 as one of the U.S. forest sector’s contributions to the vision of sustainable development established by the 1992 United Nations Conference on Environment and Development. Its original principles and implementation guidelines began in 1995, and it evolved as the first SFI national standard backed by third-party audits in 1998.
Today, SFI Inc. is an independent, non-profit organization responsible for maintaining, overseeing and improving a sustainable forestry certification program that is internationally recognized and is the largest single forest standard in the world.
The SFI 2010-2014 Standard is based on principles and measures that promote sustainable forest management and consider all forest values. It includes unique fiber sourcing requirements to promote responsible forest management on all forest lands in North America.
SFI certification also extends to the market. When they see the SFI label on a product, consumers can be confident they are buying wood or paper from responsible sources – whether it is reams of paper, packaging or two-by-fours.”

PROGRAMME FOR THE ENDORSEMENT OF FOREST CERTIFICATION SCHEMES (PEFC™)
“The Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) is an international non-profit, non-governmental organization dedicated to promoting Sustainable Forest Management (SFM) through independent third-party certification.
PEFC works throughout the entire forest supply chain to promote good practice in the forest and to ensure that timber and non-timber forest products are produced with respect for the highest ecological, social and ethical standards. Thanks to its eco-label,
customers and consumers are able to identify products from sustainably managed forests.
PEFC is an umbrella organization. It works by endorsing national forest certification systems developed through multi-stakeholder processes and tailored to local priorities and conditions.
With about 30 endorsed national certification systems and more than 220 million hectares of certified forests, PEFC is the world's largest forest certification system.
Each national forest certification system undergoes rigorous third-party assessment against PEFC's unique Sustainability Benchmarks to ensure consistency with international requirements.”
