Jen-Coat is committed to the goals of sustainable development, recycling of paper fiber, and promoting responsible resource management and use. To achieve these goals, Jen-Coat subscribes to the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) and Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) standards. Jen-Coat employs environmental, social and economically sustainable practices to meet present needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs. This is accomplished by practicing and promoting a resource and conservation stewardship ethic. Jen-Coat’s Sustainability Policy is to promote the principles of sustainable development and recycling. Jen-Coat is also committed to exploring emerging technologies including biodegradable packaging materials. To help implement and achieve the above sustainability objectives, Jen-Coat has developed and adopted appropriate programs and procedures to guide its paper procurement and product claims. The company is committed to annually review the effectiveness of its sustainability policy and to continually improve its management systems and environmental performance.
Highlights Jen-Coat introduces sustainable pouch material In July of 2009, Jen-Coat introduced “Nature Pouch” to the marketplace. The product is composed of a paper/film lamination. The paper is sourced from an approved FSC forest. The film is a renewable, corn based polymer. They are combined with a water based adhesive to form a completely sustainable pouch with good aroma barrier and moderate MVTR characteristics. Jen-Coat works with local recycler to dramatically reduce scrap waste at landfill In 1998, Jen-Coat began working with a start up company to convert our polyethylene coated waste to fuel pellets, which are primarily sold as fuel to coal-burning energy plants. These pellets burn cleaner and provide a higher level of BTU’s. In our most recent fiscal year, we recycled 40% of annual waste to this program. Currently, we have established partnerships with other recycling companies that recycle much of our remaining waste into other products. As recently as 10 years ago, this was all directed towards landfills. Plant wide solvent-less ink systems used. Meet or exceed State & Federal, Air & Water Quality standards. Active program in place to provide non-foil alternatives. Continually working with customers and suppliers to reduce package weight, thickness and overall impact on the environment. |
